MY STORY

"I started riding at 8 years old in a fox hunting barn that also did hunter shows. After six months of lessons, my parents gave my sister and me a small mare to share. Within a year, I got hooked on the naughty ponies and started riding, training, and showing any ponies that came through the barn. By the time I was 14, I had trained and helped sell at least ten ponies.

The opportunity presented itself for me to move to an Eventing based farm; here, I learned more about Eventing and dressage. When I was 15, I was given a Thoroughbred mare that took me to Novice. Unfortunately, she hated jumping into the water, so my mom and coach agreed to buy another.

My senior year brought into her life a three-coming four-year-old thoroughbred and acceptance into the University of Kentucky. While obtaining my B.S. degree in Agriculture Communications, I spent every break training and showing my young thoroughbred, Sins. While he never went to Kentucky with me we were able to climb to Preliminary together by the time I graduated.

After graduation, I moved to Georgia to continue competing with Sins with the goal of moving up to Intermediate. A series of medical issues plagued Sins’ career. At the age of 15, after years of battling bad feet and several medical problems, the decision was made to retire him. He taught me to love dressage, what a true cross-country horse he was, and how to care for and manage a truly sensitive, hard keeper!

The last year Sins competed, I moved from Athens, GA, to Aiken, SC, to put myself in the epicenter of Eventing. Over the last decade, I have worked for many different programs and people and expanded my education and knowledge of what I knew and did not know. I have taken lessons from top-notch coaches and trainers, such as Heather Carlson, Sally Cousins, Mike Winter, John Abbott, Phyllis Dawson, Gunnar Oostergard, Bonnie Mosser, and Kerry Torrey. My training philosophy is about building confidence with patience and consistency, with classical dressage as my foundation for all horses."
